All the Things We Carry by Helen Docherty
What can you carry?A pebble? A teddy? A bright red balloon? A painting you made? A hope or a dream?
This gorgeous, reassuring picture book celebrates all the precious things we can carry, from toys and treasures to love and hope.
Best of all, it shows how we can all care for each other with the love we carry in our hearts.
Children will identify with so many of the beautiful, familiar scenes in the book, whether it's carrying a special pebble on the beach; cuddling their favourite teddy bear... or being carried on their dad's shoulders!
The story is written in lyrical rhymes, perfect for reading aloud.

I was sent this book as a bookseller, to read and review for release, and I loved the story and decided to use it as our focus title at home. I put the story basket together once we'd finished up with Colours, Colours Everywhere, and all these months in, Bear showed me that I can't always choose them right!
It was several days before he even commented on the book and story basket, had a nosey through it, but didn't ask to read it... then it was several days after that when I suggested that we have a look at it.
We sat and read it together, just me and Bear one morning when The Cub was napping, and he seemed to enjoy it, and loved talking about all the different ideas in the book, but once it got put down again, he hasn't asked to reread it even once...
I got enough out of him the day we did read it to know that his favourite part was the idea of carrying the world on your shoulders, but I haven't bothered with a book review this time as I really don't think one read is enough to have him summarise it and explain which bits he liked and why.
For July, I have picked up The Boy and the Octopus by Caryl Lewis, the Books are My Bag indie children's book of the month which I have my fingers crossed for as spiking Bear's interest a little more!
Watch this space!
